Global Mental Health Need

More than 450 million people around the globe have unmet mental health needs.

Mental distress and disorder affect one in four people globally. Fewer than one out of four people in developing countries receive needed mental health treatment.

Mental health needs create a larger global disease burden than the top four noninfectious diseases:

  • Cancer
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • Lung disease

Concerned individuals can rise to meet this challenge.

Through the Mental Health Facilitator (MHF) program, caring individuals from outside the field of mental health receive training to match community needs with available resources.

Together, MHFs can help reverse these alarming statistics.
